Youth From Neighbouring Nation Expresses Deep Gratitude After Recovery From Complex And Critical Urological Issue
Kolkata, 13 June 2026: Desun Hospital Kolkata has achieved a significant milestone in advanced surgical care by successfully performing its first
robotic urological surgery on a Bangladeshi patient, further strengthening its position as a leading destination for minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures.
The patient, 26-year-old Mr. Haragopal Roy from Panchagarh, Bangladesh, had been suffering from persistent abdominal and right-sided flank pain for a prolonged period. Despite consulting several doctors in his homeland, the underlying cause remained undiagnosed.
Upon evaluation at Desun Hospital, detailed investigations revealed a right pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction with hydronephrosis, along with a right lower pole kidney stone. The obstruction was impairing the normal flow of urine from the kidney and, if left untreated, could have resulted in progressive kidney damage.
Following a comprehensive assessment, the team led by
Dr. Sujoy Basak, Consultant Urologist, Desun Hospital Kolkata, recommended robotic-assisted pyeloplasty, an advanced minimally invasive procedure known for its precision and superior outcomes. During the procedure, the obstructed segment was removed, the urinary drainage pathway was reconstructed using the Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty technique, and a DJ stent was placed to facilitate healing and restore normal urine flow.
The patient made an uneventful recovery and was discharged in stable condition. Dr. Basak, Consultant Urologist, Desun Hospital Kolkata, who successfully performed the surgery, said,Robotic-assisted surgery offers enhanced precision, superior visualization, and greater control during complex reconstructive procedures. This translates into less pain, smaller incisions, faster recovery, and excellent long-term outcomes for patients.â
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Haragopal Roy said, âI had been suffering from severe pain for a long time. After consulting Dr Basak and undergoing surgery at Desun Hospital, I am now completely relieved. I recovered much faster than I expected and am grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff for their excellent care and support.â
Mr. Sajal Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director, Desun Hospital, said, âThe successful completion of our first robotic urological surgery on an international patient reflects our commitment to bringing cutting-edge medical technology and world-class healthcare closer to patients from India, Bangladesh, and beyond. We remain dedicated to investing in innovation and clinical excellence to deliver the highest standards of care.â
