Region’s Latest JCI Hospital Sets New Horizon in Eastern India for CABG & Advanced Cardiac Treatment
Kolkata, 24th July 2026: Desun Hospital has successfully discharged its first patient following a
robotic-assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), marking a significant milestone in the hospital's advanced cardiac surgery programme. The achievement places Desun among the select centres in India offering robotic-assisted coronary bypass surgery.
Mr. Ahmad Kamal from Gaya, Bihar, was admitted to Desun Hospital on 12th July 2026 under the care of
Dr. Soumyajit Ghosh, Senior Consultant, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon. After undergoing comprehensive pre-operative evaluation and stabilisation for long-standing diabetes and hypertension, he successfully underwent robotic CABG on 19th July 2026. Following an uneventful post-operative recovery, he has been discharged in stable condition.
Conventional CABG surgery typically requires dividing the breastbone through a long incision. In contrast, robotic CABG is performed through a few small keyhole incisions using robotic instruments that provide surgeons with magnified three-dimensional vision, superior precision and exceptional dexterity. This enables the harvesting of the internal mammary artery and coronary bypass grafting with minimal disruption to the chest wall.
For carefully selected patients, robotic CABG offers several advantages, including significantly less post-operative pain, minimum blood loss, lower risk of hospital-acquired infections, shorter ICU and hospital stays, faster mobilisation, earlier return to normal activities and improved cosmetic outcomes.
The successful surgery and discharge represent another important step in Desun Hospital’s growing
