World Heart Day: Kolkata Steps Up for Heart Health at Cardio Care Walkathon

Desun Cardio Care Walkathon 2026 brings together doctors, nursing staff, students and neighbourhood residents to promote cardiovascular health and healthier living
Kolkata, September 29, 2026: Desun Hospital organised the Desun Cardio Care Walkathon 2026 on Tuesday to mark World Heart Day and promote awareness about heart health, regular physical activity and mindful eating. The initiative brought together doctors, nursing staff, students and residents from the neighbourhood, who participated in the walkathon to spread the message of preventive heart care and healthier living.
The walkathon was flagged off by Ms
Agnimitra Paul, Honâble Cabinet Minister for Municipal Affairs & Urban Development, Government of West Bengal, from Desun Hospital. The participants walked from Desun Hospitals to Acropolis Mall, highlighting the importance of staying physically active and adopting healthy lifestyle practices to reduce cardiovascular risks.

Ms Shaoli Dutta, CEO, Desun Hospitals; Dr Sanjib Kr Patra, Director, Cardiology; Dr Avik Karak, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology; Dr Biaus Samanta, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology; Dr Soumyajit Ghosh, Consultant, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery; Dr Jhulana Kr Jena, Consultant, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery; Dr Sudeb Mukherjee, Consultant, Interventional Cardiology; and Dr Kowshik Paul, Consultant, Cardiac Anaesthesiology, along with other doctors, senior functionaries, nursing staff, local residents, and school students.
Dr Sanjib Kr Patra, Director, Cardiology, Desun Hospitals, said, âHeart disease can often be prevented or its risks reduced through timely awareness, regular exercise, a balanced diet and routine health check-ups. The Desun Cardio Care Walkathon was an effort to take this message beyond the hospital and encourage people to make cardiovascular health a priority in their daily lives.â
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Shaoli Dutta, CEO, Desun Hospitals, said, âHeart health is not only about medical care but also about the everyday choices we make. Through the Desun Cardio Care Walkathon, we aimed to encourage people to adopt regular physical activity, mindful eating and healthier lifestyle habits. We hoped this initiative would inspire citizens to take proactive steps towards protecting their heart health.â
The participation of healthcare professionals, nursing staff, students and neighbourhood residents reflected the importance of collective action in promoting cardiovascular health. The walkathon also reinforced the message that simple lifestyle changes, regular physical activity and timely health check-ups can play an important role in maintaining heart health.
The initiative concluded with a call for greater awareness about
cardiovascular health and the adoption of healthier habits in everyday life.
