Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) Shunt

Know Your Surgery
A Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) Shunt is a medical device surgically implanted to treat excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulation in the brain, a condition known as hydrocephalus. The shunt diverts CSF from the brain’s ventricles to the peritoneal cavity (the abdomen), where it can be reabsorbed by the body.
