Hemiarthroplasty
Know Your Surgery
Hemiarthroplasty is a type of joint replacement surgery that involves the partial replacement of a joint, typically the hip or shoulder joint. In this procedure, only one part of the joint (either the femoral head in the hip or the humeral head in the shoulder) is replaced, while the other part (acetabulum in the hip or the glenoid in the shoulder) is left intact. It is often used when a full replacement (total arthroplasty) is not necessary or appropriate.
