A frenectomy is a dental surgical procedure that involves the removal or modification of a frenum, which is a small fold of tissue that connects or restricts the movement of a part of the mouth. There are two common frenums in the mouth: the labial frenum (connecting the upper lip to the gums) and the lingual frenum (connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth).
