On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Desun Hospital launched Kolkata’s first dedicated Parental Skills Clinic, an initiative designed to support expecting couples and new parents with structured medical guidance, emotional support, and practical caregiving knowledge.

The newly launched clinic was introduced in the presence of Gynaecologists, Paediatricians, Psychologists, and a panel of medical experts from the hospital, along with expecting couples and new parents. The initiative is aimed at guiding families through pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood, particularly addressing the needs of modern nuclear families who often lack structured support systems.

The Parental Skills Clinic has been designed to provide evidence-based education and holistic guidance on antenatal preparation, childbirth readiness, newborn care, maternal recovery, and parental mental well-being. Through this initiative, the hospital aims to reduce anxiety among first-time parents and help them build confidence while preparing for parenthood.

As part of the structure, the Clinic will initially operate on the last Saturday of every month, where a multi-disciplinary panel of doctors, including Gynaecologists, Paediatricians, and Psychologists will consult expecting couples and new parents, along with Physiotherapists and Nutritionists. During these sessions, couples will receive expert guidance, interactive counselling, and practical advice related to pregnancy care, childbirth preparation, newborn health, and parenting challenges.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Aparupa Ghosh, Consultant Gynaecologist, from Desun Hospital said, “Parenthood is one of the most transformative phases in life, yet many couples today face it without adequate guidance due to changing family structures. Through the Parental Skills Clinic, we aim to provide expecting and new parents with reliable medical advice, emotional reassurance, and practical skills that help them navigate pregnancy and early parenting with confidence.”

Dr Bichitrovanu Sarkar, Head, Paediatrics & Paediatric Critical Care, added, “Early guidance plays a crucial role in ensuring the health of both mother and child. With this clinic, couples will have the opportunity to directly interact with a panel of specialists who can address their concerns and prepare them for the responsibilities of parenthood in a structured and supportive environment.”

With the launch of the Parental Skills Clinic, Desun Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening maternal and child healthcare services while creating a supportive ecosystem for families during one of the most important phases of their lives.

Also present at the launch were Consultant Paediatricians, Dr Arijita Chatterjee, Consultant Psychologist, Ms Anushila Dutta, Group Director, Dr Saumitra Bharadwaj, and other senior hospital officials.
