Marking the occasion of World Kidney Day, observed globally every year on 12 March, Desun Hospital organised a series of meaningful activities aimed at raising awareness about kidney health, encouraging early screening and recognising the resilience of patients living with kidney disease.
As part of the observance, an awareness talk and interactive session was conducted at the hospital’s OPD by Dr. Arkaprabha Chakraborty, Consultant Nephrologist, Desun Hospital. The session saw enthusiastic participation from patients and their family members. Dr. Chakraborty spoke about the importance of kidney health, highlighting how conditions such as diabetes and hypertension can silently damage the kidneys over time. He also emphasised the need for regular screening, a balanced lifestyle and timely medical intervention to prevent chronic kidney disease.
In a heart-warming gesture to honour the strength and determination of patients undergoing long-term treatment, dialysis patients at Desun Hospital were felicitated with saplings and a token of appreciation. The initiative symbolised resilience, growth and hope. Several dialysis patients also participated in a tree plantation activity within the hospital premises, reinforcing the message of nurturing life and promoting environmental responsibility.
Extending the observance beyond the hospital, Desun Hospital organised complimentary kidney health awareness and check-up camps for morning walkers at Rabindra Sarobar and Patuli Lake. The camps offered basic health screening, blood pressure checks and guidance on kidney health. Doctors and healthcare professionals interacted with participants, sharing valuable insights on lifestyle changes that can help prevent kidney disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arkaprabha Chakraborty, Consultant Nephrologist, Desun Hospital said that kidney disease often progresses silently and many people remain unaware of the risks until the condition becomes advanced. He stressed that early detection and preventive care can significantly reduce complications and improve quality of life.
Through these initiatives, Desun Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to promoting kidney health awareness, preventive healthcare and compassionate support for patients living with kidney disease.
