Mr. Sajal Dutta, a distinguished entrepreneur and a visionary in healthcare, is dedicated to transforming Eastern India’s medical landscape. A Mechanical Engineer from Jadavpur University (1979), with an MBA degree from IIM Calcutta (1981), his journey began with XL Enterprises Limited, a manufacturer and supplier of leather products to globally renowned high-street brands, which earned National Award for Export Excellence in 1993 and 1994.
His healthcare journey began in the late 1990s as Managing Director of one of Kolkata’s first private hospitals, before he established Desun Hospital in 2006. Under his leadership, Desun has emerged as one of the region’s premier multi-specialty healthcare providers, ensuring world-class treatment and championing social welfare through initiatives like the Desun Health City Foundation. He also runs Devyam, a pharma company that makes quality assured drugs and nutraceuticals.
Shaoli Dutta serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Desun Group of Hospitals. She earned her Master’s in Management from the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, one of the world’s top-ranked business schools.
Under her leadership, Desun has strengthened its position as a quality-driven healthcare provider. She spearheaded the hospital’s pursuit of Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, aligning Desun with the highest global benchmarks in patient safety and clinical excellence. She has also been instrumental in expanding strategic service lines, strengthening operational systems and positioning Desun as a leader in tertiary care in Eastern India.
Shaoli has been particularly committed to building India’s first hospital-based Autism and Neurodevelopment Support Centre. By integrating Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the globally recognized model for autism intervention, into hospital infrastructure, she has established a pioneering model of inclusive, science-backed developmental care for children and families.
In addition to her executive responsibilities, she contributes to the international discourse on healthcare and autism services. She has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and her research has been presented at major academic platforms in the United States and India.
Her vision is to make Desun a center of excellence that combines cutting-edge clinical quality with socially responsive innovation, ensuring every patient and family receives care that is ethical, sustainable and globally benchmarked.
