Repair of Ventral Hernia (Open)

Know Your Surgery
Ventral hernia repair (open) is a surgical procedure performed to correct a hernia that occurs in the abdominal wall, often at a previous incision site (as in incisional hernia) or at a weak spot in the abdominal wall. This type of hernia results in a bulging of abdominal tissue (e.g., fat or intestines) through a gap or defect in the muscles of the abdominal wall. The open repair technique involves a single larger incision to access the hernia and repair it by closing the defect and possibly reinforcing it with mesh to prevent recurrence.
