Craniotomy for EDH

A craniotomy for epidural hematoma (EDH) is a surgical procedure performed to treat an epidural hematoma, which is a collection of blood between the skull and the dura mater (the outermost layer of the brain’s protective coverings). EDH is often caused by head trauma, such as a blow to the head, which leads to bleeding from arteries, typically the middle meningeal artery. If left untreated, an EDH can put pressure on the brain and lead to life-threatening complications.
