Balloon Mitral Valvotomy (BMV), also known as Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty, is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat mitral valve stenosis. In this condition, the mitral valve, which controls blood flow between the left atrium and left ventricle of the heart, becomes narrowed and stiff, impeding normal blood flow. BMV is a procedure designed to open the narrowed mitral valve by inflating a balloon within it.
