What are floaters, and should I be concerned?
![]()
Floaters are small, shadowy shapes (spots, threads, or cobweb-like patterns) that appear in your field of vision. They are usually harmless and occur as part of the natural aging process when the gel-like substance in your eye changes. However, if you experience sudden flashes of light or many floaters, it could indicate a serious condition like a retinal tear or detachment, and you should see an ophthalmologist immediately.
