Recent studies and trends suggests that health of women needs more attention and women need to take better care of their health that starts from lifestyle, nutrition, stress and work life balance.
HEART DISEASE IN WOMEN
Changing health conditions of women put women almost at equal risk with men for heart related diseases today, especially among the urban women and working women.
Today especially the younger generation of women in the age group till 40 years is moving in a faster paced work and social life and it is impacting their health. A recent study unfolds some alarming information about health of women in India. 3 out of 5 women are at the risk of developing Cardiovascular Diseases and a large number of them are within the age group of up to 40 years.
The major reasons for this alarming situation are
- Overweight and Obesity is spreading like an epidemic and this is something women can control. Discipline in food habit, balancing nutrition and regular exercising is something that needs to be done. It is important to quit smoking as soon as possible and also reduce alcohol intake or stop it. Proper diet and balanced nutrition is something that is very important for good health.
- Most women are suffering from low level of Good Cholesterol or HDL cholesterol. Healthy and High level of HDL helps in reducing chances of heart diseases. It is important to keep a check at cholesterol levels and be in touch with cardiologist and get required tests done as prescribed and know the condition of the heart before it is late.
- Lifestyle diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, insomnia needs to be well managed. Any other diseases like thyroid, gastrointestinal diseases etc should be treated under proper medical guidance. Health conditions should not be ignored and it is important to get treatment done by specialist doctors. Self medication needs to be avoided and it is important to follow medical prescription.
BREAST CANCER
After lung cancer, breast cancer is the second biggest reason for death in women suffering from cancer. Regular self check up and on observation of something that is common symptom or abnormal visit to specialist doctor should not be delayed.
OSTEOPOROSIS
It is a major disease among women. Earlier it was common with aged women, but now it has started showing it’s symptoms at earlier age. Well balanced diet and regular work out is important.
DEPRESSION
Depression is more common in women than men. In today’s highly competitive work and demanding social life depression is showing its impact among more number of women. Depression not only impacts work and social life but also open people exposed to many health conditions that can turn alarming.
AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
These diseases include Type 1 Diabetes, Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis. There are many more diseases in the list of autoimmune disease. This is condition where the immune system attacks the body and destroys tissues in the body.
It is important for women to keep regular track of health conditions and get medical tests done as per prescription and taking medicines properly. A balanced diet and regular workout to keep body weight under control.
